Landsknechts, mercenaries, warriors
They existed throughout history
Battle-armor, swords and gunfire
Drew people with moneys and victories
The kings and queens of the past
They needed those goons for hire
Either to defend their castles
Or to enlarge empires
When wars are over,
In the time of peace
States need much less soldiers
And a lot more police
The guns and ammo
Make fewer profits
Than conquering legislature
Or defending things of the legal nature
What do we have nowadays:
Lawyers, lobbyists and politicians
Different skills, different guts,
Although the same bloody results
The clients are still in need of defense
To protect their assets from other clients
Unless they are the ones on offense
And ready to issue penal warrants
Like farther, like son
The old maxim is still applies
Only physical violence
Is in a peaceful disguise
